In India, FSSAI, or Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is regulated under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. FSSAI registration or license is required to ensure the safety of food products delivered to the customers. In Telangana, it is mandatory for all the food business operator engaged with manufacturing, processing, storage distribution and transportation of food products to obtain FSSAI registration or license. Eligibility for FSSAI Registration

The following types of applicants are eligible to apply for FSSAI registration in Telangana:

1.Dairy units, including chilling milk units, equipped to handle or process

   Up to 500 liters per day or up to 2.5 MT per annum

 

2.Food processing sectors, including re-labelers and re-packers

Turnover, not more than 12 lakhs and whose production capacity of food not exceeding 100 kg/ltr per day.

 

3.Vegetable oil processing sector and vegetable oil manufacturing units by the method of solvent extraction and refineries including oil expeller unit

Turnover to 12 lakhs annually.

 

4.Slaughtering sector

Up to 2 for large animals.

Up to 10 for small animals.

Poultry birds up to 50 per day.

5Meat processing sector

Turnover up to 12 lakhs annum.

 

6Other businessTurnover up to 12 lakhs annum.

Eligibility for FSSAI license

The following applicants are eligible to apply for an FSSAI license in Telangana. The FSSAI license is categorized into two types. They are

FSSAI State License

1Every food processing unit, including re-labelers and re-packersMore than100kg/ltr per day to 2 MT per day.
2Dairy units, including chilling milk units, equipped to handle or process 501 liters to 50,000 liters per day of milk or above 2.5 MT of milk solids every year.
3Vegetable oil processing sectors and units producing vegetable oil by the process of solvent extraction and refineries, including oil expeller unitUp to 2 MT and Turnover above 12 lakhs per annum.
4Slaughtering units

   Up to 2 large animals

Up to 10 small animals

Up to 50  Poultry birds per day

5Meat processing sectors5001m meat per day or 150 MT per annum.
6WholesalerTurnover more than 30 Crore.
7RetailerTurnover more than 20 Crore.
8DistributerTurnover more than 20 Crore
9SupplierTurnover more than 20 Crore

FSSAI Central License

1 Every food processing unit, including re-labelers and re-packers packersMore than 2 MT per day.
2Dairy units, including chilling milk units, equipped to handle or processMore than 50,000 liters the day of milk or above 2500 MT of milk solids every year.
3Vegetable oil processing sector and sectors are providing vegetable oil by the method of solvent extraction and factories including oil expeller unit.  More than 2 MT every day.
4Slaughtering sectors

Large animals above 50 every day

Small animals above 150 every day

Poultry birds above 1000 every day.

5Meat processing sectors   Above 5001m of meat per day or 150 MT every year.
6WholesalerTurnover more than 30 Crore
7RetailerTurnover more than 20 Crore.
8DistributerTurnover more than 20 Crore
9SupplierTurnover more than 20 Crore


Documents Required – Central License

The required documents are to be submitted along with the application form.

  • The layout of the processing unit shows the dimensions in meters and operation-wise area allocation. ( Mandatory only for manufacturing and processing units)
  • List of Directors/partners/proprietors/ executive members of society/trust with full address and contact details( Mandatory only for Companies).
  • Name and record of equipment and machinery along with the number, installed capacity, and horsepower used(Mandatory only for manufacturing and processing units)
  • Identity and address proof issued by the government authority of proprietor/partners/directors/authorized signatory.
  • List of Food types desired to be manufactured.
  • Authority letter with the name and address of the responsible person nominated by the manufacturer and alternative responsible person indicates the powers vested with them by assisting the officers in inspections, collecting samples, packing, and dispatch.
  • Analysis report of water to be used as an ingredient in food from a recognized or public health laboratory to confirm the portability.
  • Proof of possession of premises.
  • Partnership deed or self-declaration of proprietorship.
  • Copy of certificate obtained under the Coop Act,1861.
  • NOC and proof of the license from the manufacturer.
  • Food safety management system plan or certificate.

Documents Required – State License

The applicant has to submit all the documents mentioned above for state license; apart from that, additionally, the applicant has to furnish the necessary documents are as follows:

  • Supply of raw material for meat and meat processing industries.
  • Pesticide residues report of water in the event of units manufacturing packaged drinking water, packaged mineral water, and carbonated water from a recognized or public health laboratory.
  • Recall plan applicable with details on whom the product is distributed.
  • NOC from the municipality or local body
  • Form IX- Nomination of persons by a company and the board resolution.
  • Certificate provided by the Ministry of Tourism.
  • Proof of supporting documentary for turnover or self-declaration of the number of vehicles. (For Transporter)
  • Declaration form(In the case of Delhi and Himachal Pradesh).

Online Application Procedure for License/Registration

Step 1: Visit the official website of the FSSAI Licensing and Registration System.

Step 2: Click on “Apply for License/Registration,” which is present on the portal's homepage.

Step 3: Select the State for which license is to be applied from the drop-down list on the next page.

Step 4: The applicant has to choose the appropriate answer for the “Yes or No” question.

Step 5: Select all the kinds of businesses located on a single premise for which the License is to be applied.

Step 6: For each Kind of Business selected, check the capacity/turnover to determine the eligibility for that category and click on the Proceed button.

Step 7: After clicking on Proceed, the current page will be re-directed to the new page where you have to click the link “Click here to apply.”

Step 8: The declaration page will select the “Accept” button.

Step 9: The application form will appear on the screen, fill the state with the required details, and upload the required documents.

Step 10: Upon submitting the form online, the applicant has to make payment to complete the process.

Step 11: After making payment, a reference number will be generated for further reference.

Note: The online application will be forwarded to the respectively designated officer for the issuance of the certified copy.
