Through the “Update Profile” service, you can update your information on the portal. To reap the benefits of this taxpayer-friendly portal, the users must update their profile information accurately. This step is essential to receive timely communications from the Income Tax Department.
Here is a step-by-step guide on updating your profile on a new income tax portal in a hassle-free manner.
Step 1: Log in to your income tax account through the e-filing portal. Use your pan card number and the same old password you used at the old income tax portal.
Step 2: An e-Filing Dashboard will appear on your screen as you log in. You must fill in the mandatory profile details.
Step 3: Come to “My Profile” by clicking on your profile picture in the upper right corner. Now update your citizenship, residential details, date of birth, gender etc., by clicking on the edit button at the upper right corner of the box.
Additional Step: You must link your Aadhaar Card with your PAN. Without this step, you will not be able to file your income tax return. Click on save once you are done.
Step 4: Now, come down and update your contact details by clicking on the edit button. You receive timely alerts from the Income Tax Department on both your primary and secondary added contact details.
Step 5: Now click on the “My Bank Account” section given on the left panel. Update all the bank accounts you have in this section. You must validate at least one of your bank accounts. Click ‘yes’ on the “Nominate for Refund” option of the validated account. On your contact number and email, you will receive the status of your request.
Step 6: Next is “My Demat Account”; you don't have to update this account if:
Step 7: Next update DSC (Digital Signature Certificate). It shows the authentication of the user. Due to security and technical reasons, you cannot migrate the DSE registration from the old portal. DSE is mandatory in the cases mentioned below:
Step 8: By updating the “E-Filing Vault”, you can activate the higher security two-way Authentication process, and it is like a high-security password.
Step 9: Next comes “Secure Access Message”, where different message options are available. It comes to use when you forget your password, and it is kind of a hint which helps you open your account when you forget your password.
Step 10: To generate a static password, click on the “Static Password” option. Generating static passwords is particularly helpful when you have low chances of receiving EVC/OTP numbers on your mobile phone because of network issues.
Step 11: To enable Aadhar OTP, click yes from the Aadhaar OTP option. Your mobile number must be linked with Aadhaar and registered in UIDAI.
Step 12: You do not need to fill in the Jurisdiction Details, and you can’t update or edit it. The portal will automatically fetch this information.
Step 13: Now, fill in the source of income from the options available. For example, if you are a salaried person, you should add the details of the firm you are working for, such as the nature of the occupation, period of employment, etc.
Step 14: If you are filing your return, then Authorised Signatory for Income Tax returns/Forms is unnecessary because no authorised signatory is needed. It is applicable for the users who authorise a person to act on their behalf.
Step 15: Click on “Representative Assessee” to add a representative assessee. The Representative Assessee would be the legal person to represent you.
Step 16: At last, click ‘Yes’ for The Portuguese Civil Code only if you live in the state of Goa and the union territories of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Dui. Click ‘No’ if not.
