Digital Signature Certificate is legally valid identity of any subscriber including his or her personal information such as name, email id, PAN, State etc. To sign documents online we need digital signature certificate to authenticate it. A digital signature is an electronic form of a signature that can be used to authenticate the identity of the sender of a message or the signer of a document, and also ensure that the original content of the message or document that has been sent is unchanged. Digital signatures are easily transportable and cannot be imitated by someone else. The ability to ensure that the original signed message arrived means that the sender cannot easily disclaim it later.
How Does A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) Work ?
A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) explicitly associates the identity of an individual/device with a two keys - public and private keys. The certificate contains information about a user's identity (for example, their name, pin code, country, email address, the date the certificate was issued and the name of the CA. These keys will not work in the absence of the other. They are used by browsers and servers to encrypt and decrypt information regarding the identity of the certificate user.

Yes, as per Information Technology Act 2000 in India, Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) are legally valid in India. Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) are issued by licensed Certifying Authorities under the Ministry of Information Technology, Government of India as per the Information Technology Act.

It is a revised version of class 2 DSC.

Using this certificate, you are permitted to take part in or provide any form of online tender or auction across India. It is primarily used in e-commerce sites and online trading platforms where huge sums of money and highly private data are exchanged.

The Class 3 DSC's are predominantly used for conducting the following functions -

  • E-tendering
  • Patent filing, trademarks, MCA ,customs
  • E-procurement, auction and bidding

  • A personal user or an authorized official may receive a Class 3 DSC on behalf of a firm
Class 3B DSC is used for Signing & Encryption
Any organization, company, or corporation that wants to sign and encrypt documents for use in e-auctions or tenders must have a Class 3B Digital signature Certificate online
An authorized person receives the DSC on behalf of any agency, firm, or company that desires to transmit online offers through the e-procurement procedures

Checklist For Class 3 DSC application
The signature of the applicant must be in blue ink
  1. If a paper employs a class 3B digital signature certificate, all manuscripts should be self-certified and stamped with the company's stamp
  2. In the case of a class 3B DSC, the organization's head should self-certify documents using the organization's rubber stamp
  3. On the application form's photograph of the applicant, there should be a cross-signature
  4. Every piece of supporting document needs to be signed by a bank manager, postmaster, or officer with gazette status
  5. Either one of the options must be used as evidence of the attesting officer
  6. Information regarding the testing administrator including name, address, phone number, and the title has to be provided
  7. This has to be a component of the attestation. If it is submitted separately, it must be attested by either the applicant or the attesting officer
  8. A self-signed copy of the organization ID card for the attesting officer
  9. An authorized signatory may also give consent to organizational documents
  10. An authorized signatories ID card is required
  11. It is a must to submit a video verification while applying for class 3 DSC.
Procedure For Obtaining Class 3 DSC
